The Ballad of the Black Moon
4. The Dawn That Lifted the Darkness
Before he realized it, the night had begun to fade. A faint blue light slowly spread across the eastern horizon, gently pushing back the darkness. As the first breath of dawn touched the sky, the Black Moon gradually lost its presence, dissolving into the morning light.
The woman looked at him one last time. A gentle smile graced her face. There was no sorrow in her eyes. No regret. No resentment. Only the quiet peace of someone who had finally found the farewell she had been waiting to share.
The man could not bring himself to speak. Instead, he lowered his head in silence. It was a simple gesture, yet it carried every word he had never been able to say. It was his farewell.
As the first rays of sunlight reached the pond, the woman's figure slowly dissolved into the morning mist. Within moments, she was gone.
The Black Moon disappeared with her. The pond became calm once again, its surface as still as if nothing extraordinary had ever happened.
Yet everything had changed.
The man no longer wandered through the mountains to escape his loneliness. For the first time in many years, he understood that love was never meant to imprison the living. He did not have to forget her. He only had to stop carrying his grief as though it were the last remaining piece of her.
From that day on, he chose to remember her with gratitude rather than sorrow.
The villagers noticed the change. The quiet man who had once walked alone beneath the darkest nights now wore a gentle smile whenever they crossed his path.
Some wondered if fortune had finally found him. Others believed he had simply made peace with the past. Whenever they asked, he would only smile.
There are some nights that cannot be explained. And some encounters are too precious to be spoken aloud.
When the Black Moon Rises Again
Even today, an old legend is quietly passed down among the people of that mountain village.
They say that on exceedingly rare nights, when the Black Moon rises above the silent mountains, those who have carried an unforgotten love deep within their hearts may find their way to the nameless pond.
If they stand alone beneath the shadow of the Black Moon, the person they have longed for more than anyone else may appear before them one final time.
Not to remain. Not to bring them back. But to offer the farewell that life never allowed them to give.
The elders have always said that the Black Moon is often misunderstood. People fear it because it appears cloaked in darkness. But darkness does not always bring despair. Sometimes, it brings peace. Sometimes, it offers the courage to release the pain we have carried for far too long.
That is why the oldest villagers still whisper these words whenever the legend is told:
"The Black Moon is not a moon that calls the dead. It is the moon that quietly teaches the living how to let go."
They also say that if you happen to visit the nameless pond on one of those rare nights, you may see a single crimson flower petal drifting silently across the water.
Whoever witnesses that lonely petal will never forget the one they loved. But from that moment on, they will remember them not with tears... but with a warm and peaceful smile.
And perhaps, somewhere beyond the mountains, beneath a sky hidden from our eyes, the Black Moon is quietly rising once again—waiting for another heart that is finally ready to say goodbye.
