The Plastic Bag Ghost: The Urban Legend That Haunts Dark Alleyways
Have you ever heard of the Plastic Bag Ghost, sometimes called the Bag Ghost?
Among Korean urban legends, there is a chilling tale about a ghost that appears wearing a black plastic bag over its head, dragging another bag behind it as it silently stalks people walking alone at night. It is one of those stories that resurfaces every summer, sending shivers down anyone's spine.
This is one of the most well-known versions of that terrifying legend.
🌃 11 P.M. — The Sound of Rustling Plastic
Several years ago, a college student known only as "A" moved into a small rental house near their grandmother's village.
The neighborhood was quiet, with only a few streetlights scattered along the narrow roads. At night, long stretches of overgrown bushes lined the alleyways, making the walk home feel eerily isolated.
One summer evening, after studying late at the library, A began walking home just before 11 p.m.
The air was hot, humid, and completely still.
Then, from somewhere at the far end of the alley, a strange sound echoed through the silence.
"Rustle... rustle... ssshhhk..."
At first, A assumed it was just a lightweight plastic bag being blown across the pavement.
But something felt wrong.
There wasn't a single breeze.
Even stranger, the sound wasn't random—it was moving closer.
Slowly.
Steadily.
"Rustle... rustle... ssshhhk..."
A cold chill ran down A's spine, and instinctively, the pace quickened.
Halfway through the alley, A finally saw what had been making the noise.
👤 A Figure Wearing a Black Plastic Bag
Beneath the dim glow of a flickering streetlight stood a human-sized figure.
Its body looked twisted in unnatural ways, and covering its head was a large black plastic bag stained with dark, reddish marks.
The most horrifying part was that the bag wasn't fluttering because of the wind.
It expanded and collapsed on its own, as if something inside was breathing heavily.
Each breath produced the same disturbing sound.
"Rustle... ssshhhk..."
A froze.
Maybe it was just an intoxicated person...
Trying not to attract attention, A slowly stepped to one side.
That's when the figure suddenly turned.
Not a face.
Just the front of the plastic bag swiveling directly toward A.
Then it began limping forward with impossibly fast, ragged breathing that no human could ever make.
👁️ The Eye Behind the Bag
Every instinct screamed to run.
But fear locked A's legs in place.
The figure stopped only inches away.
Through a small tear in the plastic bag, A caught a glimpse inside.
There was no face.
Only a single bloodshot eye pressed tightly against the inside of the plastic, staring without blinking.
Then a raspy whisper seeped through the bag.
"Would you like me... to bag you... all the way home?"
The words snapped A out of the paralysis.
Dropping everything—including a backpack filled with books—A sprinted home without looking back.
The front door slammed shut.
Every lock was secured.
That night, sleep never came.
🚪 What Was Waiting the Next Morning
When daylight finally arrived, A gathered enough courage to open the front door.
The moment it swung open, A nearly screamed.
Hanging from the doorknob was an old black plastic bag.
It smelled faintly of dried blood.
Across its surface were dozens of tiny holes, as though sharp fingernails had clawed through the plastic from the inside.
As if something trapped within had been trying to look out.
A packed up that very day.
The security deposit didn't matter anymore.
Leaving that neighborhood was the only thing that mattered.
So if you're ever walking alone late at night and hear the unmistakable sound of plastic scraping across the ground...
"Rustle... ssshhhk..."
Don't turn around.
Don't stop.
Run toward the nearest light.
Because the Plastic Bag Ghost may already be following behind you...
